My preschooler loved the cut and paste pages, and I love that I can go deeper into the interesting topics with the resources, recipes, and hands-on gardening activities.Truly an enjoyable and educational pack, versatile enough for all ages.

Comment on Eugenics and Dog Breeding by Deborah Hanyon, MPH, RDN, ACE-CHC https://homeschoolingdietitianmom.com/eugenics-and-dog-breeding/#comment-8153 Mon, 05 Aug 2019 00:32:05 +0000 https://homeschoolingdietitianmom.com/?p=5261#comment-8153 Hi Alli,
Thank you for your comment. And I’m glad you found it enlightening. I’m so glad you brought up the Poodle and Labrador mix. Though I didn’t discuss it in the article, it turns out that by combining two different breeds such as the Poodle an Labrador, some of the mutations that have occurred through the bottlenecking are less likely to occur. However, just as you said, humans don’t know nearly as much as they think they do, and it does seem like the risks usually outweigh the benefits. I agree with you 100%. Humans can be very arrogant while trying to play God, and the innocent creatures they “design” in the “laboratory,” are the ones who have to pay the price.

I really have a strong dislike for these Designer dogs that have been “all the rage” the last 20 yrs or so. Like breeding a Poodle & labrador. There are a LOT of purebred dogs found in dog pounds every where, but no one knows they’re purebred, because their owners don’t want that knowledge known. There are a lot of mutt’s being bred also. On Craigslist in my area, someone has bred Husky’s & Pomeranian & are charging a big chunk of change for a hyperactive, hyper yapping mongrel that’s going to be dumped in a pound or on the street out in the country to let a farmer kill it because they can’t.
Too many people out there, THINK they know how to mess with genetics enough to start trying to manipulate it by inbreeding/line breeding. And then they have dogs more then the Spaniel’s, that have small skulls & big brains, Doberman’s & Pit Bull’s also have this issue.
English Bull Dog’s are also another breed that have to have frequent C-sections because of how they’ve been bred over the years. No one cares.
I think human’s trying to play God, in the dog breeding business, makes this a inhumane situation, as is the puppy mills & of course letting them randomly breeding (with siblings, parents, etc.) & then dumping their pups & them. Sadly, selective breeding isn’t just for animal/wildlife.

Interesting enlightening article

Comment on Is the Paleo Diet Biblical? by Deborah Hanyon, MPH, RDN, ACE-CHC https://homeschoolingdietitianmom.com/is-paleo-diet-biblical/#comment-6686 Thu, 18 Jul 2019 03:21:42 +0000 https://homeschoolingdietitianmom.com/?p=4559#comment-6686 Thank you Meaghan! Yeah, it is so hard to avoid everything, especially because organic and GMO are more expensive. We don’t eat all organic or GMO either. We just try to eat at home most of the time and avoid artifical flavors and colors as much as possible.

I am learning new things everyday. For example, somehow I didn’t realize that soy is one of the most common GMO foods. I drink a lot of soymilk, so am relieved that the ones we drink are non-GMO or organic. 🙂

I often wonder what the bible has to say about what we eat. I agree with everything you’ve said. I’ve been eating a slightly more vegan diet only because I can’t tollerate dairy and I hate all the crap and chemicals in most meat products. I’d like to eat more balanced diet but organic healthy raised meats and things are so expenyfor our growing family.

Having taught in the classroom, I can saythe course absolutely can be used with children of all ages. There are coloring pages for the littles, activities for all ages, and research and writing assignments appropriate for the upper grades, including high school. The course is well-thought out, and Debbie’s professional experience shines through. I highly recommend this product!
